After Year 6, at the age of 11, children must transfer to a local secondary school. ‘Cumbria Education Authority’ publish a book explaining the procedures, and this will be issued to all parents of Year 6 children at the beginning of the September term. There is a programme of secondary phase familiarisation for Year 6 children during the summer term. The children see the facilities of their prospective secondary schools, meet with the teachers and other pupils and attend a series of lessons.
Year 5 children are offered the opportunity to attend a local secondary school for a series of lessons, over a period of a month; four terms before they are due to transfer. This attendance does not signify final choice of school. The object is to overcome any natural fears of secondary transfer.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about your child’s future secondary career.
