Exploring the tempo and dynamics of music

We listened to two pieces of contrasting music today.

Our first piece was New World symphony. Initially we thought the tempo of the song became faster, however after listening again we realised it was actually the dynamics of the music increasing which gave the impression of the music was becoming faster.

We then listened to Stereophonics - Thousand Trees

The children spoke about what they liked and disliked about each piece.

Summer Show - Pirates verse Mermaids

This year the whole school performed a summer show all about rivalry on the high seas. Pupils in Crummock class spent lots of time learning lines for their speaking parts and perfecting their acting skills. We all learnt lots of fun songs with actions.

Spring 2 - Music Makers - Making our own song

This half term we will be writing our own song following the rhythm of a song we already sing in class. We will be changing the lyrics then thinking about the dynamics of the song when singing.

Creating Lyrics

Today Crummock class started to create their own lyrics. Below are some clips of the children who were eager to share their songs. The children will develop these over the next few weeks.

Christmas

Our music teacher, Helen (Music Makers), is currently supporting our class with our carol service. She works with our class weekly to help develop our understanding of music and improve our vocal capabilities.

We are currently learning Christmas songs for our school carol service which will be held at Hayton Church. Our class will also be teaming up with Derwent Class to produce a video for the drive in community Carol service in Aspatria.

Below is a video of us warming up our voices and sound clip of one of the songs we are working on.

Summer Show - The Wemmicks

This year children from EYFS - Y6 put on a whole school performance, lead by our music teacher Helen. The Wemmicks was a play all about the dangers of judging others and how it can make people feel sad about themselves. The play shared a vital message about loving yourself for being unique and celebrating difference!

Crummock class pupils all had parts in the play, with some pupils challenging themselves to sing within small groups. It was a fantastic show and I am so proud of every one for shining on the stage!

Music Makers

Helen regularly comes into class to supplement our music lessons in school. This week the children looked at tempo, rhythm, dynamics and pitch. The children enjoyed experimenting with changing the pitch and dynamics when singing. They will be working towards creating their own melodies in the up and coming weeks.
