Christmas
Christmas at Whinlatter Forest
Buttermere visited Whinlatter Forest for some Christmas themed fun! The children used natural forest materials to create their own Christmas ornaments, before enjoying a hot chocolate in the cosy yurt. We then went for a winter walk in the snow to find the Gruffalo, where we decorated him and helped get him ready for Christmas! After this, we had some hungry tummies, so we headed back to the yurt for our lunch…where we were joined by a very special visitor….Santa!! All of the children were really excited to see him and had lots of great questions to ask. We then had a play in the snow and some of the children worked together to build a snowman.
Making Gingerbread people
Buttermere class enjoyed making gingerbread people today. Using the balance scales to help measure ingredients and taking turns to add things to the mixture, stir, roll and stamp their gingerbread person.
Letters to Santa!
On Friday, Buttermere Class came in to school to find Buddy the Christmas Elf! Buddy had a letter with him which told the children that Santa had sent him to keep an eye on them on the run up to Christmas. He also reminded the children that they needed to write their letters to Santa. So, during the morning the children wrote their letters and had a wintery walk (in the frost) up to the post box, where they each posted their letters to Santa!
