Sock Puppets (October '23)
Windermere class have really enjoyed their first D&T project of the school year.
In preparation of making our sock puppets, we had a ‘joining’ lesson, where we practiced joining fabrics using a variety of methods such as glue, stapling, safety pinning and using sellotape.
We then designed our sock puppets, using inspiration from the characters of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. We ensured that we had the resources available that we planned to use.
Finally we made our sock puppets, ensuring that we followed our design plan and safely conducting our methods.
Ferris Wheels - January ‘23
Our unit within D&T this month has been to design and create ferris wheels, using key parts of the structure. We investigated axels and how they make wheels turn. We also looked at key parts of a ferris wheel such as the frame and the ‘pods’.
Working in pairs, each child successfully built a moving ferris wheel! I’m so proud of how well they worked! It was also fantastic to hear lots of brilliant vocabulary from the children throughout lessons, such as; ‘structure’, ‘collapse’, ‘axel’ and ‘balance’.
