Forest School
Our local Forest School teacher, Libby happens to be a school governor and Derwentwater were delighted when she agreed to come in a take her latest session with them.
We spent most of the afternoon celebrating the Summer Solstice, learning loads about why the sun is important to us and some of the ways people like to mark the occasion and celebrate. Luckily it was sunny for our session so we crushed some summer fruits to make a yummy drink, we made summer flower headdresses to wear, we made some summer clay sculptures as well as using solar paper to make some summery images. We topped it all off by making a human sundial to learn about how they told the time before we invented clocks.
All in all it was a fantastic afternoon that the children got loads from and we can’t wait for Libby to come in again and see what we might get up to.
