Relationship and Sex Education
Y6 Parents RSE Workshop is being held on 27th June 2023 at 2.30pm.
Please contact Miss Warwick if you would like to attend or have any questions regarding the RSE Curriculum.
After consultation with parents, staff and Cumbria County Council, we decided that we would in teach Relationship and Sex Education at Oughterside Foundation School. This is taught through the Corum Scarf scheme which we use to teach our P.S.H.E. We collectively refer to these lessons as Lifeskills lessons as they provide children with valuable skills that they will need all their life.
The sex element of the scheme is taught to Y6 pupils within one discrete lesson in Summer term. Before these are taught Miss Warwick leads an annual information evening with current Y6 parent to share the lesson content and answer any questions. Y6 parents are then given the right to withdraw their pupil from this single lesson.
2023 will be our third year of teaching sex education to our Y6 pupils using our new scheme. Our feedback from parents following these sessions has been extremely positive.
