Wild Flower Planting
Wild Flower Planting
After lots of organising, we met with John Cowan who has been leading the project within the community to plant wild flowers in Oughterside playing field.
We all planted one plant each from a section of red campions, fennel and red clover in class groups. Our six reception pupils were supported by our Y6 pupils whilst planting.
It was lovely to also receive an email from John later in the evening to thank the children and compliment them on their manners and behaviour.
Our nursery pupils supported the project by using seeds sent to school for the coronation of King Charles III. We now have wild flower planters at the front of school and will watch out for these growing over the next few weeks.
You can help support this project by joining Cumbria Wildlife Trust's 30 Days Wild Challenge. There is a link below.
Our Plans
We are currently waiting for progress from the Parish Council regarding this project. We believe planting will start in Summer Term and have volunteered to:
- Help with any planting ✅
- Look into supplying wild flower seed that can be sent home ✅ 30 days wild from Cumbria Wildlife trust.
- Creating wild flower guides to highlight the importance of Wild flower planting.
