We went to the netball competition today with only a small amount of experience of playing netball. I was impressed with how quickly our pupils grew in confidence and how fast their netball skills developed. They went from being a little unsure with positions, to running into spaces to receive passes and achieving some fantastic interceptions of the ball! Very proud of the perseverance demonstrated by all!
Wheelchair Basketball - 1st March 2024
Nat and Jack came in to school today to lead a session of wheelchair basketball. The children really enjoyed the experience but also gained an insight into the challenges for wheelchair users. Nat told the child about how he requires a chair due to a spinal injury.
Netball Skills - Week 1
This week, prior to our cluster netball competition, we freshened up on our netball skills. This included throwing and catching, movement to create more effective passes, and finding space.
Spring 1
This half term we will be developing our dance skills every Tuesday with Andy and improving a variety of sports skills within our Friday multi-skills lessons with Miss Warwick.
Dance Festival - 8th February 2024
Crummock and Derwent class were invited to Crosscannoby school to participate in a dance festival hosted by Andy Conkey. The festival was a celebration of not only our dance skills that we developed but also our music knowledge.
Pupils choreographed their own dances, paying attention to the tempo, pitch and dynamics of the music to help make decisions about dance moves they used.
We had a fantastic afternoon performing for an audience and observing different dance routines from other schools. We also had the opportunity to dance with pupils who attended Crosscannonby school, some of whom our Y6 pupils will transition to secondary school alongside.

Hockey Festival - 26th January 2024
This morning, Crummock class attended the Cluster Hockey festival at Solway Community School. We were joined by four other schools and one of our two team came third 🏑
Both teams showered great determination and team work during the competition. Lots of skills were demonstrated, with pupils showing great control of the ball. They were moving into space for passes and had a lot of goals on target. Unfortunately goals outside the box were disallowed.
This was our first time playing in a hockey match and I was really proud of the whole class for taking part and trying their best!
12th January - Great teamwork during multi-skills circuits
Autumn 2
Dodgeball Competition- 17th November
We’ve had a fantastic morning at the cluster dodgeball competition!
I could not be prouder of the pupils in Crummock class, who, despite sometimes there only being one player left on the court, did not give up! In fact on most occasions we turned the game around and won!
Fantastic to witness such great teamwork and encouragement!
Autumn 1
Swimming Week - 9th - 13th October
This week pupils from Y2 - Y6 have attended swimming lessons each morning. The children have really enjoyed the sessions, developing and in some cases perfecting, swimming strokes. It’s been fantastic to see their confidence grow and we are looking forward to returning for our second swimming block in Summer.
Silloth Cross Country
The children showed great character and resilience at the cross country. The weather was awful but it didn’t put them off, they ran their little hearts out and cheers so loudly for each other, it was great to see.
Workington Reds Sessions
This half term we will have a visitor from Workington Reds in School to teach us football skills ⚽️. We hope to show off what we have learnt at our football competition on Friday 29th September when we will play against other Y3/4 teams in our cluster.
Tennis with Rob 🎾
This half term we have enjoyed some additional tennis sessions with Rob. Tennis is one of our playtime sports activists on a Monday and Friday so we have lots of opportunities showcase our skills!
P.E with Andy 🏀
Every Tuesday we have an hours P.E lesson with our P.E teacher, Andy. This half term we are focusing on basketball.
Circuits in the sunshine
This half term we will be practising our Tennis skills. We decided to start our topic with some key skills surrounding footwork, throwing, and changing direction.
Cross Country at Silloth
Pupils in KS2 had the opportunity to join seven other schools within our cluster to take part in a cross country event hosted by Solway Community School. The children took part in a Y3/4 Girls race, Y3/4 boys race, Y5/6 girls race and Y5/6 boys race. The children had a fantastic afternoon and their behaviour was exemplary. We are so proud of each pupil who challenged themselves to take part 😊
Spring 1 - Gymnastics
Our Friday P.E focus this half term will be gymnastics. We will be looking at how we make body shapes in gymnastics and using these alongside props, in partnership with our peers to create symmetry and to create routines.
Static Shapes - Pike, Straddle, and tuck
Swimming - November 2022
We've had a wonderful but intense week swimming at Workington Leisure Centre this week. Crummock and Derwentwater have been swimming every morning, this has certainly been exhausting for some nevertheless they've all worked really hard and persevered so that everybody's swimming stamina has improved immensely. Congratulations to all our swimmers, you've been great! I think we can also admit that we had lots of fun too!
