Fire Safety Talk
We had a special assembly lead by Mike and Shaun from Cumbria Fire service today about fire safety before bonfire night.
They spoke to the children about using sparklers safely, suggesting putting a carrot on the end of the sparkler to protect hands. They also discussed how to put sparklers into water or sand to allow them to cool before placing them in the bin.
They also spoke about being safe around fireworks.
Key advice:
Sparklers
Never pick up sparklers if you drop them.
Only parents should light sparklers.
Wear gloves and put a carrot on the end to protect hands.
Place used sparklers into buckets of water or sand to allow them to cool before placing them in the bin.
Hold sparklers a full arm length away from your body.
Fireworks
Fire works need to be lit in a safe area away from houses.
Only adults should light fireworks and should never be lit when holding them.
Never return to a lit firework.
Be considerate to pets who may be scared by fireworks.
Bonfires
Adults need to check bonfires for animals before they are lit.
Don’t climb inside or on top of bonfires as you could get injured.
Only build bonfires in wide open spaces as fire can spread quickly.
Keep a safe distance from a lit bonfire.
