STEM in the EYFS
Tue 09 May 2023Last week, we were were privileged to have Alyx Murdock from Jacobs work with our Early Years children, introducing them to the world of STEM and making it completely relatable and incredibly enjoyable.
The workshop was based on the theme of ‘The Three Little Pigs’, and children were encouraged to investigate the different materials that the houses were made from and how strong the structures were. They loved the practical approach that Alyx presented to them and were really engaged throughout.
Thank you so much to Alyx and Jacobs for this wonderful opportunity.

KS returns!
Fri 28 Apr 2023KS returned to Oughterside last week, seeking help and advice from all our pupils. He’s also been teaching younger children, and reminding our older pupils, all about ‘Yucky feelings’ and how we need to speak to a trusted adult if we ever experience them.
Please remember to check school bags as letters will be sent out after each session. It’s fantastic when children share these messages at home as teaching others will help our pupils to remember the key messages.
In KS2 sessions may switch days due to bank holidays. -
Pond Green Park Opening
Wed 26 Apr 2023Today, KS1 and KS2 joined members of the parish council and the wider community, to observe the official opening of Pond Green Park.
The parish council have worked hard to secure funding from a number of businesses in order to develop the park as they have. Ron Salmon, a member of the council, has been into school on a couple of occasions to get the children’s views and ideas, as well as giving them progress reports. The children were thrilled with the results and couldn’t wait to try out the new equipment.
One of our own children, Sampson, supported his Grandma as she opened the park officially. A red tractor and plaque have been placed on the park to remember Sampson’s uncle, who sadly passed away a few years ago. He was a local man who spent many years of his childhood playing on the park, so the sentiment was very fitting.
We look forward to using the park again in the future.

Supporting the charity, MDNA
Wed 29 Mar 2023Today, we had the honour of supporting John Newell and a team of walkers, who have set off on their sponsored walk to raise money in support of the MNDA charity.
The team will walk from Oughterside Foundation School to Blackpool Tower Over the course of the next few days. They have already smashed their initial target and are on course to raise over £11,000 for this very worthy cause.
It was a privilege to complete the first part of their journey with the walkers and clap them off into the distance as they started this gruelling task. John spoke passionately about their mission and is incredibly thankful for all the support they have been given.
We wish them lots of luck over the coming days and look forward to progress reports. Thank you to all children and family members who have donated to this wonderful charity!

Mothers Day Event
Fri 17 Mar 2023On Friday 17th March, Mrs Hetherington held her 32nd Mothers Day Event in school, creating an opportunity for children to purchase small gifts for the mothers and grandmothers. The event is very popular with children and parents alike, and Mrs Hetherington puts in an enormous amount of time and effort, making many items herself. We can't thank her enough, as all money made from the event, goes back into the school and is spent on the children.
The children have requested that we get some picnic benches for the field, so when the weather improves, we will be investing in some for them.
Thank you Mrs Hetherington for all your hard work.
